What is the best way to implement anchor text for SEO?

Anchor text is the clickable text on a link. Search engines use this to determine the relevance of a page and the search terms it ranks for.

✅ Anchor Text for Internal Linking

This is between pages on your own website. #Google isn’t likely to hit rankings because of internal anchor text, but they have before.

�� The number one rule is to make it relevant and natural for the user. Does it help the user, if yes, internally link.
�� That being said, use your primary keyword you want to rank for in the anchor text when you can.
�� Avoid “click here”, “this” and general non-descript anchor text.

Be as descript as you can be. Include variations and natural sentences as anchor text. Create internal links like an editorial publication would.

✅ Anchor Text for Link Building (External)

Building links on other websites is one of the most powerful ways to improve organic traffic, but it is also the most dangerous. Over-optimized anchor text is the most common way to get penalized.

But here’s the secret.

You can see the ratio of anchor text you need by using competitor analysis. I take you step-by-step through this technique in the video below.

Let’s get some terms out the way:

�� Exact Match Anchor Text

Linking with the target keyword you want to rank for. Ex. “Cars”.

�� Branded Anchor Text

Linking with the name / brand of your website. Ex. “Google”.

�� Partial Match Anchor Text

Linking with a part of your target keyword. Any sentence which includes your target keyword or a part of your target keyword.

Ex. “like these new cars from Google.”

�� General and URL Anchor Text

Linking with “click here” and other general text. You should also link with just the URL in a sources / citations section of the linking page, as well as linking with the title of your article.

There is no perfect ratio of anchor text. The best way to determine anchor text distribution is through #competitoranalysis.
